Skogbrann i Hellas igjen

Approximately 50 percent of the forest fires in Spain have been intentionally set. And France's Ministry of Interior reported the arrest of around 100 arsonists in July and August, while in Portugal the police have detained about 70 people on suspicion of starting fires.

Police sources in France say the intentional forest fires have been lit by land speculators to facilitate future obtaining of construction permits.

Once an area has lost its forest to fire, these permits are more easily granted, a French police official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Tierramérica. Thus the intentional burning of forests creates conditions to expand urbanization to areas that previously were restricted.

For Humberto da Cruz, director of the Institute for Research and Cooperation in the Mediterranean Basin and former director of Spain's Institute for the Conservation of Nature, one way to reduce intentional fires is to establish "drastic prohibitions on changes in land use for long periods of time after a fire."

While some fires are believed to have been caused by environmental factors, others clearly were not.[5] The fires could have been deliberately put as a way to get around Greek law which forbids property development on areas designated as forest land and to pull benefit from Greece's unique position as the only EU country without a full land registry system.[5][45][49] A substantial reward has been offered for anyone providing information which leads to the arrest of an arsonist.[49]

Greek police announced the capture of three arson suspects: A 65-year old man from Areopolis was charged with arson and murder relating to the fire which killed at least 6 in this area.[5][19] Also, in northern Kavala, two youths have been detained on suspicion of arson.[5][19][21] Greek government press minister Theodoros Roussopoulos confirmed on August 27 that 61 people had been arrested on suspicion of involvement in arson, seven of these being retained in custody.

On August 27, 2007, PASOK leader George Papandreou accused the government of insinuating that his party is involved in the fires and called on Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis to produce any evidence that would support there was such an organized plan.[50] Heavy criticism directed towards the government for its handling of the crisis, with the Greek press forming a chorus in ridiculing the incompetence of the country's officials, was accentuated in September by the reported discovery of steps aimed at giving a green light to property developers in the ravaged region.[51]

THE FIRES ARE PUT HERE ONLY ON PURPOSE ALWAYS, BECAUSE THEY NEED LAND TO BUILD MORE HOMES FOR PROFIT.
SO THEY CHOOSE A WINDY DAY, AND START A LOT OF FIRES AT VARIOUS PLACES IN THE WOODS.

I CANNOT STAND THIS
2 YEARS AGO AT THE BIGGEST FIRE, I WAS CRYING ALL DAY.

THEY ASKED FOR HELP ONLY LAST NIGHT, THE 2 ITALIANS ARE HERE.

BUT OUR PLANES DONT FLY A LOT
THEY SEND 3-4 TO A FIRE, THEY FLY FOR HALF HOUR, THEN GONNE.

JUST TO MAKE PEOPLE SHUT UP.
BUT THE FIRES ARE IN SO MANY BIG PLACES NOW, IS IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL IF THEY DONT FLY 60 PLANES.

Forest fires in Greece are in 99 prosent of the cases, attached. All the woods and the little green areas left are protected, so they can not build there. We need this areas to give us oxygen, and it is not much oxygen in Athens. Now they took the little we have away from us. We can even breath. Every year they are doing this to us...they are killing us....burning us.

This has to stop. Someone myst take responsibility.
It can not be so easy that they can only burn down and kill people, and take all the land and we just sit back and look at them. We need help, we need action. Please, help us!!! ( And off cause some years after the fires, they start building up new homes for profit.)

This is killing me to see:

And they will keep on killing us :(
